Bedroom storage: 36″ in front of dressers, 24″ deep closets
A dresser needs 36″ to open its drawers.
Bedroom plans often show the furniture but not the space to use it. Keep 36″ (915 mm) clear in front of dressers and wardrobes. Reach-in closets need 24″ (610 mm) of depth for hangers, with 36″ clear in front. Hang rods at about 66″ for long clothes, or about 82″ and 41″ for a double hang. A walk-in with hanging on both sides needs 24 + 36 + 24 = 84″, so 7 ft wide.
