Bed placement: 24″ on each side
A bed needs 24″ on each side.
That's the minimum to walk in and make the bed; 30–36″ feels comfortable. So the room needs the bed width plus 48″: about 8 ft 6 in for a full, 9 ft for a queen and 10 ft 4 in for a king. A king in a 10 ft wide room leaves 22″ a side. Keep 36″ at the foot and in front of a dresser so the drawers open, and pick nightstands within about 2″ of the mattress top (most mattresses sit near 25″).
