Signed at home: 3 business days to cancel
Sign a contract at home and you get 3 business days to cancel.
The FTC Cooling-Off Rule covers sales of $25 or more made at your home, including a remodeling contract signed at your kitchen table. You can cancel for any reason until midnight of the third business day after signing. Saturdays count, Sundays and federal holidays don't: sign on a Thursday and the deadline is Monday at midnight. The seller must give you two cancellation forms; the refund is due within 10 days. It doesn't apply to contracts signed at the contractor's office, and your state may give you more days. Not legal advice.
